Mental Health Awareness Week

It's Mental Health Awareness Week and this year it has a theme of kindness.

As we can see from LJMU Together, there are countless displays of kindness being shown across the university as we support one another and our communities through these strange and uncertain times.

Mental Health Awareness Week aims to get the nation talking about mental health and kindness and reach as many people as possible.

Look out for positive stories on social media using the hashtags #KindnessMatters and #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

If you would like to share stories of kindness during COVID-19 in LJMU Together, please email press@ljmu.ac.uk

We have introduced two new wellbeing tools to support staff and students' mental health during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Fika - 'cope with remote'

We have teamed up with the mental fitness app Fika during COVID-19 to help us all stay motivated, productive, focused and connected during this period of remote working.

In response to the pandemic, Fika has created a dedicated series of programmes allowing us to learn from expert psychologists, students, academics and professional athletes in five-minute video, audio and text programmes.

These programmes are specifically designed to help combat the challenges of remote studying/working and the mental health impact of COVID-19.

Programmes and audio guides cover topics including managing distractions and uncertainty, maintaining motivation and positivity, staying connected, self-care and healthy habits.

To get more of an idea of what is on offer, you can join the Fika masterclass at 11am on Thursday 21 May.

SilverCloud

We have also partnered with a programme to help people through COVID-19 by developing emotional coping strategies and support with how to deal with grief and loss.

SilverCloud is a self-help cognitive behaviour therapy programme, offering a variety of modules to support us all in our day-to-day lives during the pandemic and beyond.

There are modules on depression, anxiety, stress and body image, as well as the new module on COVID-19.
